 Troop 525 - May 2014

Welcome to the website of Troop 525 in Peachtree Corners, GA! Chartered with eight boys in August 1984 Troop 525 is boy-led and each is required to hold leadership positions as he advances in rank. The troop meets each Monday night, while school is in session, beginning at 7:30 PM at Simpsonwood United Methodist Church (SUMC) 4500 Jones Bridge Circle, Peachtree Corners, GA 30092. This site contains information for the scouts, parents, members and volunteers of our troop. Visitors are always welcome. Come join us!

Boys who are older than 10, or who have completed the fifth grade can join the Boy Scouting program.  Cub Scouting is for boys in the first through fifth grades, or 7 to 10 years of age. For information about Cub Scouts please contact Pack 525 (pack525cubmaster @ gwinnettbsa dot org).

Webelos Crossover cermonies

Please note that we have numerous Webelos crossover ceremonies coming up.  All of these will be in March.  The dates are listed in the event section.  Please indicate if you (scouts and/or leaders) will be able to assist

Registration is open for SUMMER CAMP 2015

Registration is open and we need deposits for SUMMER CAMP 2015 - SIGN UP NOW
For summer 2015 the troop will be attending 2 summer camps as in past years.
Scouts should start planning now on what merit badges to take, what requirements can be done prior to camp so they can complete the merit badge, what merit badges can assist in advancement, and what activities would they like to do at camp. 
Attached are the merit badge schedules from the camps.
If you have questions about merit badges, or what you should take, please see me at a meeting of give me a call.
These camps are:
  • Woodruff Scout Reservation (WSR), Blairsville, GA
    Sunday June 7, 2015 - Saturday June 13, 2015
    Woodruff is operated by the Atlanta Area Council
    Fees: $335
  • Skymont Scout Reservation (SSR), Altamont, TN
    Sunday July 5, 2015 - Saturday July 11, 2105
    Skymont is operated by the Cherokee Area Council
    Fees: $315
Woodruff – Weeklong summer camp with merit badges and other camp activities.  Planned events include an afternoon rafting trip the Nantahala or Ocoee River, flag retirement ceremony, hikes to the Davis Inn, and troop activity to the climbing wall.  New activities for 2013 at WSR include paddle boarding, Air-Soft, a New Bouldering Wall, Fly Fishing MB, additional Davis Inn programs/times, additional Friday afternoon activities, Field Archery, Movie Nites
If you are an older scout there are several high adventure options for WSR, these include:
  • C.O.P.E. (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience)
  • River Challenge, 5 days, 5 river trips - $50 additional fee
  • Adventure Zone, hiking, ropes, and rivers - $50 additional fee

Skymont – Weeklong summer camp with merit badges and other camp activities.  New for this year will be the Friday trip to Ruby Falls and Ruby Falls Zip Line tours (www.rubyfallszip.com)  Also new at Skymont this year are additional merit badges; Woodworking, Geocaching, Public Speaking, and all 3 Citizenship merit badges. 
If you are an older scout there are several high adventure options for SSR, these include:
  • C.O.P.E. (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience) - $50 additional fee
  • Plateau Plunge – A week long program including climbing, horseback riding, rafting, and COPE - $110 additional

Winter Court of Honor - 2/23/2015 - Reminder

Sign-up now for the Troop's Winter Court of Honor banquet, February 23rd beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Simpsonwood Family Life Center  Scouts, parents and families invited. Dinner will be a delicious catered meal, followed by the presentation of rank awards, merit badges and other recognition. You also will have the opportunity to invest in the Scouting program with your Friends of Scouting pledge, so bring your checkbooks. Scout Sunday SUMC - 2/15/2015

Pastor Brian Clark would like our Troop and the two Cub Packs to be part of the upcoming Sunday services to commemorate BSA Scout Sunday. 

 We are looking to provide 4 Scouts at each service.  In addition, he would like to interview an adult scouter as part of the sermon.  Your Scoutmaster has volunteered to provide the adult interview at the 11:00 service in the sanctuary.
